RealDesk Founder Newsletter
November 2024
Hello RealDesk Fans,
Welcome back to our company newsletter, where we’ll keep you in the loop on all things RealDesk.
ICYMI: What’s RealDesk?
RealDesk.AI is on a mission to eliminate inefficiency in real estate. Designed to empower real estate professionals, RealDesk frees up valuable time so that agents and brokers can focus on growing their businesses and building client relationships. Our AI-powered platform automates key tasks and combines transaction management, compliance tracking, financial processes, and collaboration tools into a single, intuitive solution. RealDesk is setting a new standard in real estate innovation, reshaping brokerage operations to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving industry.
The Journey So Far
Right now, we’re working with a select — and growing — group of real estate brokerages from across Canada to test some of what we’ve built, and prototype our new innovations.
We’re a proud alumni member of the DMZ (Proptech cohort), and are supported by a small group of advisors, including our original DMZ cohort sponsor GroundBreak Ventures.
Achievements
We attended the Pacific West Conference in Vancouver, as well as the Ottawa Real Estate Board Trade Show. Also, while we were in Vancouver we enjoyed catching up with a number of our customers, including Parallel 49 Realty, Oracle Realty, Team 3000 Realty, and One Percent Realty BC.
We’ve been accepted into the Vector Institute’s Data Readiness, Model Development, and Model Deployment (DaRMoD) program for Spring 2025. The Vector Institute is an independent, not-for profit corporation founded by Geoffrey Hinton (one of the “godfathers” of AI and a recent Nobel Prize winner) to advance AI application, adoption, and commercialization. This will provide an opportunity to access talent and models to support our next-gen platform, ML etc.
We rolled out our new learning site and launched training modules for agents and bookkeepers (with broker / deal admin modules coming soon). We also launched a variety of guided tours here as well as on our main site — including a super quick introduction to our key capabilities that we like to call “RealDesk Magic”.
Learnings
We definitely underestimated (massively) the amount of prep and logistics required for conferences and trade shows! Our initial foray in Vancouver could have gone a lot better, but the good news is that we learned a lot for the next one in Ottawa.
We continue to struggle a bit with lead generation, finding that email campaigns are less effective than in our previous experience. This is the case across B2B sales, not specific to RealDesk, and we already have a number of other strategies to diversify our go to market.
Platform Updates
We’ve significantly expanded our embedded EFT capabilities, including the addition of EFTs to buyers and sellers in case of deposit refunds on collapsed deals, and in Ontario where excess funds are paid out directly to the seller. We’ve got a whole lot more where that came from, as we continue to help our customers eliminate paper cheques entirely.
We released a consolidated Agent Earnings Report that allows brokers and agents to see all of an agent’s commissions, deductions, and expenses, which formerly required reviewing a few different reports. More generally, we continue to build out our reporting capabilities to give all users better visibility and make data analysis and reconciliations more seamless.
We rebranded our e-signature tool to RealSign, and have launched campaigns to increase awareness and usage.
Priorities for December
New outreach campaigns — LinkedIn for the main RealDesk platform, and email for RealSign
Reconnecting with prospects we met earlier this year; December is generally a slower month and can be a good time to transition to a new platform
More emphasis on content creation — on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube (please follow!)
Completing new platform features — Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) payments, dynamic payment links, and additional accounting reports
Asks
Like any startup, we’re always keen to meet anyone with whom we might collaborate:
Industry Intros: Real estate brokers, top-producing agents, industry influencers, or anyone else who can help us in our product discovery
Fundraising: Introductions to angel and early-stage venture investors
Partnerships: Innovative proptech / fintech / legal tech companies and founders
Advisors: We’re seeking those with deep connections in the North American real estate landscape, and/or specialized skillsets in AI, design, and information architecture
More generally, If our mission resonates with you, then we’d love to have you with us as we navigate this journey. Whether you’re a broker, agent, technology partner, investor, or just interested in what the future of real estate could look like, please do reach out, and follow us here and on our various social media channels.
Thanks so much for your support!!
